Step back in time and learn about the fascinating history of the Bonegilla Migrant Reception and Training Centre.

Explore the original camp buildings, hear shared stories and truly walk in the shoes of the 320,000 migrants who made this site their first Australian home.

We have a selection of ways you can experience the rich history of the site. Choose to participate in one of our regularly scheduled guided tours or explore the site at your leisure with a self-guided tour, including the Suitcase Trail. For groups and schools, you can pre-book a private guided tour.

All tours depart from the Welcome Centre.

Self-guided tours

Guided tours

Guided tours are scheduled regularly throughout the week and are open to the public. You can view upcoming guided tours on our What’s On page.

As our guided tours have limited places available, it's best to call (02) 6020 6912 or email bonegilla@wodonga.vic.gov.au and register prior to your visit.

Cost: Adult $20 | Concession $17 | Child (16 years and under) $10.50 | Family $50 (two adults and two children)

Includes guided tour and site admission.

Group tours and travel

If you’re planning to visit as a group, you can book a private guided tour with an experienced guide. Book online, by phone on (02) 6020 6912 or email bonegilla@wodonga.vic.gov.au.

Allow at least one hour for your visit. Minimum fees apply for groups with 14 people or less

Children’s tours

If you’re visiting with your children, we recommend you utilise the Suitcase Trail

By using your smartphone, you can let them roam the site hunting for the suitcases full of treasures while learning about life at the centre.

A paper version is also available from the Welcome Centre.

School tours

Students can immerse themselves in the rich and varied history of the site and gain an insight into those who came through, what they encountered, and the contribution they made in building Australia.
